About Maak Een Bear

At Maak Een Beer, you can make your own teddy bear. Read all about how it began here.

It all started during corona, in 2020, with a little girl eager to give some love to the world. That’s when the idea of a store selling stuffed animals using the build a bear concept was born.

It all started during corona lockdown for maakeenbeer.be. Everyone was sitting at home and barely allowed outside to deal with the pandemic. For many, this was a tremendously difficult and sometimes lonely period. It was then that a little girl, Fran, got the idea to give the world some love.

Since getting outside was not an option, Fran soon came with the idea of starting an online store. On a vacation, she had already had a taste of the concept of making her own teddy bear. Because she had made the bear herself, she had felt tremendous love coming from this. Fran figured she could also offer this online to anyone who needed some love. She would mail the materials along with a little of her own love, supporting anyone who needed it. The idea of the web shop was born.

When maakeenbeer.be started in 2020, it was the first webshop to offer the “build a bear” concept in Belgium. Because the concept did catch on, a number of other providers quickly joined. Of all those online sellers, several stopped after the corona. Some did continue, like Maak Een Beer.

Today, Maakeenbeer is still on a mission to send love into the world with the help of plush friends. Are you in need of some friendship? Or do you want to gift someone a little love? Then you are definitely in the right place. Find your favorite animal in the shop now. Don’t forget clothes and accessories, either. All our soft toys are shipped with wool to fill them, a heart to give your soft toy extra love and a birth certificate.

Fran (10) opens webshop that helps you stuff your own teddy bears: “People could use a hug right now”

Ten-year-old Fran from Leopoldsburg has a heart for entrepreneurship from an early age. She started the Internet store “TeddyBeer,” through which she helps other children (and their parents) stuff teddy bears. “I thought it would be a nice idea in these difficult times to help people make a hug, since they are currently unable to give a physical hug,” explained the cheerful young lady.
